4.2.19

After the

completion of the Wutong Hills Tunnel,

cross-border traffic at Shatoujiao is expected to

increase substantially. The eastern approach road to

the bridge linking Luoma zhou and Kuangpang has heen

completed. Site formation work for the western section

of the road has also been completed. It is expected

that the whole crossing will be completed in 1988 as

scheduled.

4.2.20 At present, about 8,000 cross-border permits have been

issued to goods vehicles registered in Hong Kong. Due to rapid economic developments, it is found that this

number is not sufficient. In March this year, the

Shenzhen government requested the Hong Kong Government

to issue permits to goods vehicles registered in

Shenzhen SO that there could be a balance of traffic

flow, but no reply has yet been received.

4.2.21 Or flood preventior works, there has been close liaison

in the last five years between Sherzhen and the relevant

departments of the Hong Kong Governmert in carrying out

joint geological surveys, soil testing and other works.

separately discussed with the Political Adviser and the

Chief Secretary on ways and means to speed up the flood

prevention works, but the deadline of August for

starting work has not been met.
