Mr. He Chuben (Deputy Director of the Planning. Office)
introduced the general background of Shenzhen. Shenzhen
city has a land area of 2020 sq. km of which 327 sq. km.
is defined as the Special Economic Zone. Following the
oper economy policy in 1978, the economy of the city has
developed in e rapid rate. As at the end of 86, the
populatior of Shenzher was 0.93 million of which 0.51
million was
Economic Zone. (This

4.2.2 From 1979 to 1980, the total

constructed land area was about 50 sq. km. In 1986 the
CDF was 3,534 KMD Yuan, representing an increase of 17 times compared with the figure of 1979. The GDP per capita was 3,900 RME Yuan, representing an increase of
5.5 times. The gross value of industrial and
agricultural output reached 3,810. KMB Yuan.

Industry has
the main eccronic activity in
Shenzhen. Most of the production is for export. Before
1979, there Were only about 200 workshops employing about 8,000 workers mainly producing agricultrual tools
and other hardwares. At present, there are & industrial
districts and 1 science and technology complex. As at
the end of 1986, there vere some 1,176 enterprises
employing some 130,000 workers. The gross value of
industrial output was 3560m RMB Yuan. It is expected
that the value will increase to 5000m KMB Yuan in 1987.
