The negotiations had not given Medina any real insight into Chinese intentions towards Taiwan, though one interpretation of their having named 20 December 1999 for the handover of administration in Macao was that they were reserving a further 10 days to allow for the reincorporation of Taiwan into China before the end of the 20th century.
