Tong Yuk-hon of Ta Kung Pao (29.3) said that China had maintained its principle in handling the nationality issue of HK and Macau residents. The different status of the future passports to be held by HK and Macau people was a result of different arrangements by the British and Portuguese Governments, which were made according to their different circumstances.

In another article (30.3), Tong said that Chinese nationality laws had provided for a solution to the question relating to the nationality of ethnic minorities in Macau. Tong noted that Chinese laws stipulated that people born to stateless parents in China could acquire Chinese nationality.

Wah Kiu Man Po (28.3) said that the settlement of the HK and Macau questions might not set an example for the reunification of Taiwan with China. It was because the Taiwan question was different from the question of HK and Macau in
