Dear Charles
ARRIVAL OF NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR:
27/8
27 AUGUST 1987
1. The new Chinese Ambassador, Mr Ji Chaozhu, will arrive in London on 27 August 1987. According to standard practice, our Protocol Department will arrange for him a programme of courtesy calls on FCO Ministers and officials, as well as the presentation of credentials. It is the responsibility of the Embassy to arrange meetings with other Ministers once the initial round of courtesy calls has ended. I hope the DTI and other Departments to whom I am copying this letter will wish to encourage an early call by the Ambassador on their Departments. The round of courtesy calls will take place in the week starting 1 September, although Mr Ji is unlikely to be able to present his credentials until October.
2.
For your information, I enclose a copy of Mr Ji's biographical note and the brief on Sino-UK relations we have prepared for the FCO courtesy calls.
