The Staff Side of the Senior Civil Service Council wishes to make a formal claim for an annual pay adjustment for 1987/88.

The amount of the increase should not be less than the pay trend indicators set out by the Pay Trend Survey Committee which were 7.13% for the lower band, 6.4% for the middle band and 6.3% for the upper band.

The Staff Side feels there are good reasons for an increase above the pay trend figures for the following reasons

(1)

The Staff Side is of the opinion that a large number of merit payments reported are in fact general increases in view of the fact that many such increases are paid to well over 80% of staff from some companies in the private sector. Often the proportion of merit increases exceeds the general increase by a large amount.
