The objection was filed on "Fung Shui" grounds objecting to the borrowing for filling materials at ai Tsai because the activity would require removal of an ancestral grave. The objectors insisted that their ancestors' grave, claimed to have 500 years of history, should be preserved.
The grave has to be removed for earth borrowing activities under the project.
As the grave is situated at the centre of the borrow area, modifications to preserve the grave will be very difficult. It has been estimated that the cost of preserving the grave
will be in the order of $1 million.
Yes.
A series of meetings with the objectors were arranged. They had recently indicated that they were prepared to accept removal of the grave subject to acceptable terms of compensation and redress on "Fung Shui" grounds. The requested compensation was in the order of $0.1 million, which was being considered by DLO/YL. Discussions on the timings and other arrangements are underway.
Although the objection was dated one month after the statutory closing date for objections, the Attorney General's Chambers still consider the objection to be a valid one as Government has not been unduly prejudiced by the late receipt of the objection.
Yes.
This has been carried out with DO/YL & DLO/YL.
