With reference to the reply given by the Secretary for Security to this Council on 10687 on the question of British consular protection for Hong Kong residents travelling abroad, will the Government advise whether there has been any progress made in the attempt to repatriate Hong Kong residents serving prison sentences overseas, in particular those in Thailand?

We have made some progress on the issue of

transfer of sentenced persons between Hong Kong and

foreign countries.

21 October 1987 has extended the Repatriation of

Prisoners Act 1984 to Hong Kong with effect from
