Mainland people who come to work in Hong Kong can apply for a passport or service passport, depending on the nature of stay (Passports are for people who are engaged in commercial activities in Hong Kong, whereas service passports are for those who are involved 11. other kinds of work in Hong Kong). Mainland people who wish to come to Hong Kong are required to apply to the British Embassy in Beijing for a visa, and investigation and approval will be made by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong. Before the documents certifying the

application

appointment or employment are required.

Mainland people who visit Hong Kong for business investigation and inspection, business negotiation or for organising exhibition, etc.. have to comply with the above-mentioned procedures (except for people of the Guongdong and Fujian provinces). For Guongdong and Fujian people, applications are gathered and sent to the visa office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in Hong Kong by the provincial Foreign Affairs Office: the applications will then be referred to the Immigration Department in Hong Kong which will issue visas after investigation.

Starting from 1980, Chinese nationals may visit Hong Kong in organised tour. Everyone in China may join the

"Hong Kong Tour" organised by the Guongdong Travel Service and the China Travel Service (H.K.) Ltd. The tour members are mostly Guongdong residents. The tours usually last for 8 to 10 days. At present, there are About 180 people Joining the "Hong Kong Tour" every day. Mainland people who come to Hong Kong for personal reasons are to apply to
