There was a small article in Export magazine, Denmark, on the demonstration of Hong Kong farmers against the new agricultural pollution law.
The Bremen paper Weser-Kurier reports on the largest poster in the world, laid out in a Hong Kong park. The poster, which measures 50 square metres, represents a new world record.
In a long article on the Mafia which appeared in the Lisbon weekly, Semanario, Hong Kong nationals are said to be involved in organised crime groups operating extortion, drugs and prostitution rackets.
Travel and Tourism stories were a bit thin on the ground this month. The Travel Trade Gazetta (Turin) covers the rennovation of the Hyatt Regency in Hong Kong which cost $20 million and that of the Peninsula Hotel which will not be finished until 1992. Other travel articles on Hong Kong appeared in Agenzia Viaggi (Rome) (Silkway travel and its FIT tours programme). The same paper dealt with several Far East countries including Hong Kong under the title "Fantastic Orient".
In the Italian car magazine Autosprint (Bologna) there is a ten-page feature on a Far Eastern car rally, half of which is devoted to Hong Kong. In the colour supplement of Oggi (Milan) there is a short article on Hong Kong. The author assures his readers that, "It will probably be Hong Kong which will speed up the process of liberalisation in China". Writing in the Milan monthly Vie del Mundo, American journalist Charles N Barnard covers the political background, tourist facilities, eating out, etc in an 18-page, lavishly illustrated feature.
