1. Thank you for sending me a copy of the draft letter to Hong Kong under cover of your minute of 26 March.

2. I think the only POD point of interest concerns language training needs. If either option (c) or (f) were adopted the Senior Representative would obviously need to be a Sinologist, as would the supporting DS5.

There should be no problem over the Senior Representative. The DS5 could prove difficult if required, as seems likely, before the end of 1988

we could provide someone for a new slot. Obviously the best solution would be if the Deputy Political Adviser could act as the Senior Representative's Support Officer, at least until late '88 if not thereafter.
