Result: The defendant received a suspended sentence but as a result of an application for review by the Attorney General this was set aside and he was sentenced to two years imprisonment. The Court of appeal ruled the cocaine should be considered a 'hard drug' and said normally the defendant should receive a four year sentence but because this was the first such case in Hong Kong and was by way of review a two year sentence was appropriate.
1.4 kgs Cannabis seized by PTU

On 9 June 1985, two PTU PCs seized 1.4 kgs of herbal cannabis when they carried out a stop and search in Temple Street. A 25 year old Chinese male was subsequently arrested.
Result: The defendant absconded whilst on bail.
920 gms Cannabis Resin seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB 1/162/85
On 25 June 1985, Customs officers of the Air Passenger division seized 920 gms of cannabis resin when they arrested an American male who arrived from Katmandu. The drugs were found concealed inside the pair of shoes which the arrested person was wearing.
Result:
The defendant was convicted after trail and sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for three years, and fined $10,000.
