DRAFT EC/EFTA CONVENTION ON JURISDICTION AND THE ENFORCEMENT OF JUDGMENTS IN CIVIL AND COMMERCIAL MATTERS

1. An EC/EFTA Working Party has for some time been
negotiating a parallel Convention to the 1968 Conven-
tion on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments
in Civil and Commercial Matters concluded between the
original six members of the European Economic Community.
I attach a copy of Cmnd 7395 which contains the text
of the original 1968 Convention and of the 1978 Conven-
tion of Accession thereto by the United Kingdom, Ireland
and Denmark. The 1978 Convention is not yet in force
because the Belgians have not yet ratified, and the three acceding States will not ratify until all the original six have done so. UK legislation to give effect
to the Convention is already in place the Civil
Jurisdiction and Judgments Act 1982. copy of the latest text of the draft parallel Convention.
I also attach a

extension to UK territories in Europe.
