continue to believe that the MHD and the Administration are not keeping an open mind on options. They feel that irrespective of what their view may be, they are destined to be disestablished.

On 10.6.86, the Joint Committee for the Concern of Medical Policies (comprising the Christian Industrial Committee, the Concerned Committee for Government Medical and Health care and a few pressure groups) met the Umelco Health Services Panel. At the meeting they accused the Consultants of over-simplifying the problem of inadequate provision of medical services and of addressing the problem from purely the administration point of view. They also criticized the Consultants' proposal to set up an independent Hospital Authority as being too abrupt and suggested that gradual remedial steps should be taken.

At the press conference on 19.6.86, the Umelco Health Services Panel expressed general support for some of the Consultants' proposals. Earlier they had indicated that they recognised the merit of establishing the proposed Hospital Authority but were worried about its cost and staff implications.

The League of MHD Staff Unions organised a 2-day seminar on 23.6,86 and 24.6.86 to further discuss the Consultants'
