PROVISIONAL ANNOTATED AGENDA

1. Opening of the session

The Chairman of the Executive Committee will open the session on Monday, 6 October 1986 in Conference Room XVII of the Palais des Nations, Geneva, at 10.00 a.m.

Election of officers

Rule 10 of the Rules of Procedure of the Executive Committee (A/AC.96/187/Rev. 2) states that "the Committee shall, at the first meeting of the first regular session in any one year, elect from among the representatives, for the whole of that year, the following officers of the Committee: Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Rapporteur".

Adoption of the agenda and other organizational matters

According to Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure, "The provisional agenda for each session shall be drawn up by the High Commissioner and shall be communicated to the Governments members of the Committee, the specialized agencies, the appropriate intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations in consultative status and those referred to in Rule 38, with the notice convening the meeting".

According to Rule 5, "The provisional agenda shall include: (a) all items proposed by the Committee at a previous session; (b) all items proposed by any member of the Committee provided that such items are proposed within eight days after receipt of the provisional agenda; (c) all items proposed by any sub-committee which may have been appointed by the Committee to serve in between its sessions; (d) all items proposed by the High Commissioner".

The present Provisional Annotated Agenda reflects the recommendations of the Executive Committee's Informal Working Group which met earlier this year. The Committee will be called upon to adopt the conclusions outlined in paragraph 5 of the "Note on Executive Committee Documentation and Related
