Dear Dave,

RESETTLEMENT OF VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG

1.

During my recent call on UNHCR's Resettlement Session to discuss the proposed Ecoles Sans Frontières programme in Hong Kong, I took the opportunity to exchange current information on the resettlement of Vietnamese refugees in general.

2. I informed UNHCR of the current position, as we saw it, of Japan (referring to the first sentence of paragraph 2 of Tokyo telno 796) and of Luxembourg (referring to the 5th and 6th sentences of paragraph 1 of Luxembourg telno 218). UNHCR informed me that Norway intended to send a Mission to Hong Kong on 25 August to interview refugees, with the object of selecting 70 to 75 persons from Hong Kong, including handicapped persons. The latter could be from within their quota for the Twenty or More Plan.

Yours sincerely, Delia
