At Mrs Chalker's request M. Bariani explained that his exact responsibilities had not yet been defined. As well as General Assistant to M. Raimond he had specific responsibilites for the Quai divisions dealing with cultural, scientific and technological affairs and for French citizens overseas and foreign nationals in France. He would also help implement the policy defined by M. Chirac of strengthening France's links with Latin America (eg.

Brazil) and Asia (eg. Indo-China).

2. Mrs Chalker thanked M. Bariani for his help with arrangements

after the death of the Duchess of Windsor.
