CAMF VISIT (6)

23RD NOVEMBER to 27TH NOVEMBER 1985

Fan Vinci

(42,000 people)

For this trip I am grateful to 20A for assistance with transport (60 km each way) to and from Chiangkhan and guidance within the camu, particularly by Dr. Annars Veneman. Also to my wife in translating for me.

ZCA run the entire medical programme for some 42,000 people. They are currently running & camp survey there appear to be some high levels (app 23%) of malnourished children, some serious cases needing constant

care.

There is a need for a small ward for 10/12 suc. children to receive such care. There is also a fairly urgent need for an experienced midwife. The dental office is in need of a high speed drill, sterilizer and dental chair (modern)!

Dr. Kjaw (Burmese dentist) needs books in English:-

BOUCHER

I spoke to Robert Father of COERR and met a remarkable man JONATHAN, a Fhilipino. He has 91 deaf and dumb people under his care, and has produced a deaf and dumb book in limong and is teaching building and runs agricultural programme to retain their interest.

Recommendations:-

That we look into the possibility of funding the 204 ward for malnourished children as most of them are fror. families from Ban Nam Yao and Son Tuan with strong Ockenden links (several people enquired of Khun Steve and Ockenden).

We might care to keep in touch with Jonathan Tusalen (CCERR).

Could Ockenden find a midwife to work with ZOA?
