Further to my letter No. MA 1011-100 of 6 December 1984 concerning the Preparatory Technical Maritime Conference, I wish to inform you that, in accordance with a decision taken by the Governing Body of the International Labour Office at its 230th Session (June 1985), the Conference will be held at the International Labour Office, Geneva, from 5 to 16 May 1986. opening sitting will take place on Monday, 5 May, at 10 a.m.

As indicated in my previous letter, the Governing Body at its 228th Session (November 1984) fixed the agenda of the Conference as follows:

1.

Seafarers' welfare at sea and in port.

2.

Social security protection for seafarers, including those serving in ships flying flags other than those of their own country.

Health protection and medical care for seafarers.

The Merchant Shipping (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1976 (No. 147); mechanism for incorporating new Conventions in the appendix.

Revision of the Repatriation of Seamen Convention, 1926 (No. 23), and of the Repatriation (Ships' Masters and Apprentices) Recommendation, 1926 (No. 27).

In this connection, I would point out that the terms of reference of preparatory technical conferences are limited to the questions on the agenda as determined by the Governing Body. Copies of the reports on each of the items on the agenda will be sent to you as they become available.

I now have pleasure in conveying to your Government, in pursuance of decisions taken by the Governing Body at its 228th and 230th Sessions regarding the composition of the Conference, a cordial invitation to be represented at the Preparatory Technical Maritime Conference.
