Summary of Objection

(i) Changes in the landuse of Quarry Bay Reclamation

will result in a deterioration in the environment.

(ii) The adverse environmental impact of the works

will lead to a lowering of property values.

(iii) The lack of direct access between the tunnel

and the Estate will cause inconvenience, traffic congestion in the Quarry Bay area and depress property values in relation to areas which do have direct access.

Meeting between Government representatives and Swire Properties Ltd. (SPL) held on 10.1.86; Vol. I of a report submitted by SPL on the effects of the scheme on the Quarry Bay area and suggesting alternative layouts for the Quarry Bay landfall. Letter 23.1.86 commenting, on Vol. I, that notwithstanding the lack of direct access between Taikoo Shing and the tunnel, the present scheme provides the best traffic solution for the public of Hong Kong.

Meeting between Government representatives and SPL held on 4.2.86; Vol. II of the report submitted by SPL suggesting modifications to the scheme. Letter dated 27.2.86 commenting, on Vol. II, that the suggested modifications would result in a reduction of traffic and operational standards without offering any overall nett benefits.
