3.3.6 Shing

The 840 pcu morning peak hour flow attracted to the link from Taikoo into the EHC provides relief to all three adjacent interchanges on the IEC. In the morning peak, direct Taikoo Shing traffic

comprises 60% of the flow. The other 352 pcus are drawn in from Quarry Bay largely from areas to the west along King's Road. In the evening peak the slip road flow is projected to be only 424 pcus and Taikoo Shing traffic comprises less than half the flow, showing the tidal nature of the residential traffic generations.

3.3.7

The flows on the direct exit links from the EHC to Taikoo Shing are projected to be 216 pcus in the morning and 575 pcus in the evening peak hours. The inclusion of this link diverts traffic from the Kornhill and Sai Wan Ho IEC slip roads.

It has no direct effect on the use of the Healthy Street interchange on the IEC. Taikoo Shing traffic accounts for 80% of the morning and 90% of the evening traffic flow on the link.

3.3.8 The inclusion of the direct connections to the EHC draws extra traffic through Taikoo Shing. In simple link volume terms, the extra traffic would not overload the local network within the Estate. However, in the morning peak the projected 840 pcus feeding into the EHC

on a give way slip road would incur delays since the projected flow on the inbound IEC lanes to the EHC from the east would be very full at about 1750 pcus.

As a result the hourly capacity of the slip road would be 670 pcus and queues would form. Clearly if this was a regular occurrence vehicles would divert to other routes to the EHC.

The slip road has storage for 60 vehicles thus the excess demands would form queues which would tailback into the Taikoo Shing network.
