Information Services
The Passenger Enquiry Hot-line set up in February 1983 continued to be well received by the public. As a result, the information services have had their establishment expanded to 12 staff (including 10 terminal operators,
1 clerk and 1 supervisor) compared with the original staff of 5 when the Hot-line was first set up. Some 31 100 telephone enquiries from the public were handled in the month of September 1985.
Since April 1984, the Company has published route maps, covering all the routes it operates, which are available to members of the public free of charge. Since November 1985, route maps on Sha Tin new town have also been distributed to local residents. Besides route maps, the Company has printed posters to promote bus routes in Sha Tin. Posters and leaflets were also distributed in connection with the opening of the bus terminus at Mong Kok KCR Station. The Company is planning to produce posters on the Airport Coach services.
Driver Training Unit
The Training Unit was established in 1965, and was further enlarged and re-equipped when relocated to Sham Shui Po in 1981. Full-time intensive training is given to new drivers and an advanced course is provided for experienced drivers. The improvements have been reflected in a reduction in the number of complaints about drivers received by the Transport Complaints Unit. A new series of advanced courses for Bus Captains (i.e. bus drivers) commenced in September 1984 to improve services and promote staff relations with the public.
Forward Planning Programme
Under Section 12A of the Public Bus Services Ordinance (Chaper 230), KMB is required to prepare a 5 year development programme before the end of June each year with effect from 1985. The first such five year plan covering the period from 1986 to 1990 has been successfully produced by the Company.
