The main improvements made by KMB since the Review of August 1982 are summarised below :-

Screenline survey results from 1982 to 1985 showed that KMB was able to meet the overall scheduled bus requirement.

Blanket bus termini surveys indicated a continuing improvement in performance. For the past few years the performance ratio, which measures observed departures against scheduled departures, was : -

Route Development

(i) Fleet size and acquisition of vehicles

KMB's fleet size expanded from 2363 in August 1982 to 2458 in August 1985. The August 1985 fleet size required by the agreed Route Development Programme (RDP) was 2501 at 85% fleet availability. The fleet availability rate has improved from 72% in August 1982 to 85% in recent months. To achieve the 1984-86 RDP requirements, a total of 349 vehicles were on order or under construction in September 1985.

As regards the increased use of high capacity buses, KMB has a total of 157 three axle buses in operation as compared with 7 in December 1982. A total of 62 three axle buses were under construction in September 1985. The number of single decker buses has reduced from 301 in August 1982 to 149 in August 1985.
