Mr Jacobs said that the Government would implement, as far as possible, seven proposals put forward by Legco members relating to contingency plans, the setting up of an advisory body and an education programme on nuclear energy.

He pointed out that China Light would have to follow regulations stipulated in the scheme of control when buying electricity from the Daya Bay plant.

Miss Dunn told Radio-l this morning that whether it was a joke or not, the president of the Legco should be respected under any circumstances. Her view was shared by another Legco member, Jackie

Chan.

Legco member Hui Yin-fat hoped that such an incident would not happen again while Dr Ho Kam-fai felt that only through mutual respect would matters be objectively analysed in the council.

J

Lee Yu-tai said that although the remarks by some councillors might be viewed as a discourtesy from a certain angle, there was no big problem as it had shown that HK was enjoying the freedom of speech.

Andrew Wong told the station that the post of the Legco president,

if not the person, should be respected.

› Dr Conrad Lam said he did not think that Miss Dunn's statement was directed at him. He added that the matter should be treated light-heartedly and he did not have any intention of showing discourtesy to the president.

However, he said that some might think that the president in Legco van God and should not be touched.

A caller to "Open Line" this morning expressed reservations about Miss Dunn's statement. The caller felt that Miss Dunn was trying to allow the atmosphere of Legco meetings in the past to continue as a cocktail party in which no aggressive atatements would be made. He hoped Martin Lee and others who had talked good sense would continue to

do 80.

Sing Pao noted that Legislative Councillors had gradually come to a consensus on the Daya Bay issue. They all hoped that the Government would release more information, particularly on the cost of buying electricity from Daya Bay and the future power tariff structure, and on contingency plans.
