Thursday, October 16: Remarks by more than 30 Legco members and the statement by the Financial Secretary, Piers Jacobs, at yesterday's Legco debate on the Daya Bay issue were extensively reported in the media.
The papers noted prominently that a motion moved by Senior Legco member, Lydia Dunn, to seek more information from the Government on the economic and safety aspects of the Daya Bay plant, was endorsed unanimously.

Four members, Szeto Wah, Martin Lee, Lee Yu-tai and Dr Conrad Lam, warned that they would seek to Invoke the Legco Powers and Privileges Ordinance if the Government refused to release relevant information as requested.
A number of papers, including Ming Pao, the HK Daily News, Sing Pao, Sing Tao Jih Pao, the HK Commercial Daily, the Centre Daily News, the Oriental Daily News, Wen Wei Po and Ta Kung Pao, reported in headlines that Lydia Dunn stated that it was a discourtesy to accuse the Governor of "shining shoes.

The reports also said that Legco member Dr Conrad Lam, while referring to Allen Lee's speech, said it was the Governor who was shining the shoes of Mr Lee's fact-finding delegation.
In reply to the motion, Financial Secretary Piers Jacobs stated that all information on the safety and economic aspects of the Daya Bay project, except details classified as commercial secrets, would be made public.
He explained that commercial secrets, such as the Lazard Brothers' eaport, if made public, would undermine 's International reputation, and possibly overseas investors confidence in NK.
