Q. There seems to be a marked difference between
China's present attitude towards the question of world
peace as compared with its position on this very
important issue in international affairs since the 60s
and the 70s. Mr General Secretary may we have your
comment on the reasons for the considerations which lead
to the shift of this policy?
A.
This is an assessment we have arrived at in light of
changes in international development in the past decades
and particularly in the past 10 years and more. During
the past decade and more the peace safe guarding forces
in the world has grown considerably. Here I wish to
point out that in Europe, including countries and people
in both in Western Europe and Eastern Europe do not want
to see the out break of a new world war. By pursuing a
foreign policy of peace and independence China can
contibute its share in safe guarding world peace. I
consider the view that a world war was inevitable which
we held more than 10 years ago was a little bit too
absolute and should be corrected.
(Laughter).
