A. We have got a geat deal to offer China in her modernisation

programme because we produce a large range of competitive goods and we have got a good reputation there, I think including the reputation for technology transfer.

We are

a very advanced industrial nation. We are a nation with a long tradition of innovation. We are supplying, for example, some of China's needs in the energy field, the Kuang Dong nuclear power station. In the transport field, shipping and railways modern agricultural methods although China has been teaching the world a great deal there. Telecommunications, computer science, financial services and of course on the defence field as well. So I think we have got a great deal to offer. I am doing everthing I can to encourage British commerce and industry to make the most of the opportunities and I know the Chinese government is doing the same.

Thank you.
