In the first quarter of 1986, 3.0 million trips were made by Hong Kong residents to China, representing an increase of 5% over the same quarter last year. addition, 118,538 trips were made by foreign visitors to China through Hong Kong. In the other direction, the number of trips made by Chinese residents to Hong Kong rose by 28% over this period to 29,221. Of these, 52% were in the form of group tours, while the rest were made by two way permit holders.
