The value of imports from China grew by 26% in the first quarter of 1986 over the same quarter last year, to HK$15,241 million. This marked increase was probably attributable, in part, to rapid growth of re-exports of China origin (27% in money terms, on a year-on-year comparison basis) and to higher prices for some items as a result of China's success in controlling the flow of parallel goods to Hong Kong.
