THE SECURITY ASSOCIATION

4.5

The Working Group continued to monitor the dialogue between the Security Association and the two largest groups of security companies which were not members of it. One of these two groups joined the Association in August 1985 and the other group is engaged in active negotiations with the Association. This second group of companies is likely to join the Association in the near future.

4.6

When both of these two groups of companies have joined the Association, it will be properly representative of the security industry. It will then be well placed to encourage responsible self-regulation within the industry, leading to an improvement of the standard of the security industry in general, including an improvement in the general standard of watchmen and security guards.

FUTURE ACTION

4.7

The Working Group will continue to take action as follows

(a)

(b)

(c)

-

it will complete the draft bill to introduce amendments to the Watchmen Ordinance;

it will co-ordinate the issue of the circular containing the guidelines on contracts for watchmen to all Government departments; and

it will continue to monitor the dialogue between the Security Association and the remaining major group of security companies which has, as yet, not joined the Association.
