Lu Ping: The post of the chief executive of the future SAR must be filled by a person who would look after the overall interests of the territory without any personal ambition.

A member of Lu Ping's delegation, Shao Tienren: The chief executive should be chosen before July 1, 1997 to ensure that there would not be a power vacuum during the changeover.

Lu Ping: The SAR legislature would be

given the power to dismiss the chief

executive by passing a resolution with a two thirds majority. The legislature would then have to report the

resolution to the Central People's Government for endorsement. (Note: Mr Lu later denied the report).
