Communist Papers
(Wen Wei Po): It was irresponsible to advocate resisting communists with democracy. Such slogan as "resisting communists with democracy" would only create confrontation and would be unfavourable to all parties, including HK. It would be against the Joint Declaration if the "Communists" referred to the central government in Peking.
(HKU Student Union, in an opinion paper on political reform): Direct election should be introduce by 1988 and at least one quarter of the Legco members should be directly elected.
(Ma Yuk-leung, HKU Student Union spokesman: The future chief executive should be elected by the general public. Major officials should be nominated by the chief executive, approved by the legislature and
appointed by the central government. The legislature should be empowered to monitor the administration.
(BLDC deputy
secretary-general Lu Ping): The Basic Law would spell out clearly the method of selecting the future HK SAR chief executive.
Non-communist Papers
(HK Times): It was the wish of most HK people to resist the Communists with democracy, an idea that was in line with the Joint Declaration.
