He distributed a summary of the pledges made on 28 November 1984, and noted that he was encouraged by the contributions which have been received for 1985 which leaves the early part of the operation well covered.

Mr Kunugi distributed a telegram dated 27 December 1984 indicating the concern of the United Nations Secretary General regarding the escalation of fighting on the Thai-Kampuchean border.

While in Geneva, Mr Kunugi had the opportunity to express his concern at the marked increase in military incidents both on the border and in Kampuchea. His remarks were released to the press in Geneva on 23 November 1984 and later in Bangkok. Mr Kunugi provided copies of the press release to those attending the Open Session.

In that press release, Mr Kunugi warmly commended efforts of the international relief workers, particular those of UNBRO, ICRC and voluntary agencies operating on the border. He repeated this appreciation at the Donor's Meeting in November and expressed the hope that the UN would be able to continue to rely on such organisations.
