revealed that about 80 per cent of the Vietnamese settled

in the UK were unemployed. No comparable research has

been undertaken since then. However, those working most

closely with the refugees (Home Office and voluntary

agencies) believe that the national level of unemployment among the Vietnamese may now have reduced to about 60 per

cent. Local figures vary considerably from one region to
