Entry into France by BUTCs of Hong Kong
Thank you for your letter of 2 May.
I regret I have been unable to find in our records any letter from the French Consulate written on 10 August 1983.
Although we have had a number of discussions with members of the French Consulate on this subject, they have not been prolific letter writers. I note however, that Paris Note Verbale No. 268 of 29 November 1983 refers to a letter dated 10 August 1983 from the French Consul in Hong Kong to us. I should be grateful if Paris would let us have a copy of the letter (see JF Gahan's letter to Richard Hoare of Hong Kong Dept of 29 November 1983).
We received official confirmation that visas for visit of less than three months would not be required verbally. I enclose copies of my correspondence on this subject as well as Richard Margolis' teleletter of 2 February 1983 to J F Gahan.
