* HK/Macau Office director Ji Pengfei (meeting with HK/Macau Trade Union delegation): HK people will definitely sit on the Basic Law drafting committee. HK people's opinions will be widely consulted during the drafting.

HK Economic Journal:

Under the current heated discussions on the Basic Law, a lot of people have the misconception that we can stop the Kommunist from marching in as long as we have a set of Basic Law which is drawn up with HK people's participation. What is more important is the power to interpret the Basic Law and whether PLA troops in HK will come under the control of the

SAR Government.

Financial Daily: It seems unlikely that the Basic Law drafting and consultative committees will have equal status. HK people sitting on the drafting committee should automatically become members of the consultative committee.
