Drafting committee member Cha Chi-ming (writing in Ming Pao): The Governor in HK after 1997 should be elected by residents or selected through democratic consultation with the public before the Central Government makes the appointment.

Covenor of the labour sector's joint conference on the Basic Law Wong Wai-hung: About 20 labour unions which had suggested the setting up of the joint conference are contacting all labour unions in HK to join the conference and it is expected that about 100 unions will attend the conference's first

meeting on August 19 to discuss the formation of the conference.
