The Express: HK people should do their utmost to seek greater participation in Basic Law formulation.
South China Morning Post: The open offer by NCNA HK director Xu
Jiatun to several pro-Taiwan members of the local community should be endorsed by all those who have the interest of a future HK at heart. Non-Chinese should also be included in the consultative committee. As the consultative group's functions are completely different from those of the drafting body, it will not be out of place if the drafting committee also considers the views of non-Chinese so that it will have full representation from all sectors of the
community.
Tin Fung Yat Po: It is an appropriate arrangement that four of the six members of the working group to draw up a charter for the consultative committee are drawn from the legal profession.
Ta Kung Pao: One should work towards a consensus on major issues and accommodate minor differences in the Basic Law consultative process. The first meeting of the HK members of the drafting committee has set up a good example of democratic consultation.
of its members will be made public so that residents can take part in the discussion.
* CPPCC delegate Ho Sai- chu: It is appropriate that legal professionals should make up the majority of the six-man working group to draw up the charter for the consultative committee as the work involve legal technicalities.
Wong Siu-yee of the Kowloon City concerned office on the Basic Law: There should be representatives from different sectors of the community taking part in the six-member working group to draw up the charter of the consultative committee.
Wat Chiu of the HK and Kowloon Licensed Hawkers' Association: Hawker representatives should sit on the consultative committee as hawkers have frequent contact with the public.
