Q.

In your view, the traumatic experience is gone forever never

to return?

A.

Q.

A,

While I cannot say it for certain, I think it is highly unlikely that it will recur. This is mainly because people, from the

leadership down to the masses, have learnt a profound lesson.

That is true. This is what really matters.

Every one will object if we insist on carrying on the old

practice. The way of handling BAI Hua's case was completely different from past practices. LAN Ling and LI Xifan were

originally well-known figures. Because of his writings, LAN

Ling was inculpated and considered a rightist. But Bai Hua's

case is totally different; not only was he not inculpated, but

he continues to be an official of the Chinese Writers Association.

Q.

I am sorry to chip in. It is said that ZHU HOUZE, who has

recently taken up the post of Director of the Propaganda

Department, had once been branded as a rightist (Editor's note :

please refer to the last issue of Pai Shing).

A. I am not quite sure about that.

The situation of Hong Kong hinges on China's reforms

..

A.

China's development is more rationalized and getting on the

right track, which will contribute to Hong Kong's stability

and prosperity. Any discerning person will understand that

Hong Kong's future is largely determined by China.

At present, China works strictly according to the Constitution.

The Central Government places special emphasis on law and

discipline.
