Objective

The Consultative Committee is set up with the aim to act as a bridge to liaise and foster communication between the Drafting Committee and various sectors of the community in Hong Kong and as an important channel through which

public views and suggestions on the Basic Law

are to be reflected. It will, in accordance with the 'one country, two systems' principle, the principle of maintaining Hong Kong's stability and prosperity and principles laid down in the Sino-British Joint Declaration, carry out consultations with the aim of drafting a Basic Law for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region that is in line with the aspirations of

the people in China, including Hong Kong compatriots.

Drafting Committee, which, in fact, means

reflecting these views to the Standing

Committee of the Chinese National People's

Congress.

To be consulted by the Drafting Committee.

If the need arises, to process and analyse opinion which has been collected for

reference to the Drafting Committee.
