15 1. We would define British Overseas Citizens as that

16 category of British national created by the BNA 1981 who were

17 formerly CUKCS but did not become British citizens through

18 close connections with the UK or BDTCs through close connections

with an existing dependent territory. BOCs do not have right 20 of abode in the UK although any admitted to the UK for

settlement will have right of readmission to the UK which will

be stated in their passports. BOC is not automatically 23 transmissable.

No accurate figures are available but we estimate that BOCS are distributed as follows: kenya 17,000: Tanzania 9,000: 26 Zambia 5,000: Malawi 4,600: Zimbabwe 1,000: India 39,000: 27 Pakistan 1,700 and about 10,000 in the rest of the world.
