Dependent Territories citizenship were references to the status of a

British National (Overseas);

(d) Section 45 (evidence);

(e) Section 46 (offences and proceedings);

(f)

Sections 47 and 48 (legitimated and posthumous children); and

(g)

Section 50 (interpretation).

(2) The provisions of Section 12 of the said Act of 1981

(renunciation) shall apply in relation to British Nationals

(Overseas) and the status of a British National (Overseas) as they

apply in relation to British citizens and British citizenship.

(3) The provisions of Section 40 of the said Act of 1981

(deprivation of British citizenship) shall apply in relation to

British Nationals (Overseas) and the status of a British National

(Overseas) as they apply in relation to British citizens and British

citizenship, but as if in sub-section (2)(a)(i) the reference to

that Act were a reference to the Hong Kong Act 1985.

(4) The said Act of 1981 shall be amended as follows: -

British

(a) in Section 4(1)(acquisition by registration):

Dependent Territories citizens, etc), for the words "or a British

protected person" there shall be inserted the words ", a British

protected person or a British National (Overseas)";

(b) in Section 37(1)(by virtue of which certain persons have the

status of a Commonwealth citizen), after paragraph (a) there shall be inserted the following paragraph -

"(aa) under the Hong Kong (British Nationality) Order 1985

is a British National (Overseas) or a British Overseas

citizen;

or";
