DRAFT HONG KONG (BRITISH NATIONALITY) ORDER 198
9.1.85
1. This Order may be cited as the Hong Kong (British
Nationality) Order 198 and shall come into operation on
198
2.-(1) Any person who, immediately before the relevant date
(1st July 1997), is a British Dependent Territories citizen by virtue
only of circumstances which give rise to the status of a Hong Kong
belonger for the purposes of the immigration laws of Hong Kong in
force at the time of the making of this Order shall on that date
cease to be such a citizen.
(2) The relevant provisions of the laws of Hong Kong referred
to in paragraph (1) above are contained in the definition of the
expression "Hong Kong belonger" and associated definitions in
section 2(1) of the Immigration Ordinance of Hong Kong
(a), and in
the First Schedule thereto, the texts of which are for convenience
set out in Parts 1 and 2 respectively of Schedule 1 to this Order.
3.-(1) Any person who is a British Dependent Territories
citizen by virtue of such circumstances as are mentioned in
Article 2 above shall be entitled, before the relevant date (or,
if born in 1997 before that date, before the end of that year),
be registered as having a form of British nationality to be known
as ["British (Overseas) national"], on application made before the
date specified in paragraph (2) below as being applicable in his
case signifying his intention to acquire that status.
