(2) Persons registered under paragraph (1) above shall

have a new form of British nationality and shall be known as

British Nationals (Overseas).

(3) For the purposes of paragraph (1) above the date

before which an application [signifying a person's intention

to remain a British national] must be made ́i's

(a)

1st January 1997, in the case of a person born

before 1st October 1996;

(b)

1st April 1997, in the case of a person born

(c)

after 30th September 1996 and before

1st January 1997;

1st October 1997, in the case of a person born

after 31st December 1996 and before 1st July 1997.

(4) Any person who, immediately before the relevant date,

is a British National (Overseas) but not a British Dependent

Territories citizen shall on that date cease to be a British

National (Overseas).

5. No person shall acquire British Dependent Territories

citizenship on or after the relevant date by virtue of a

connection with Hong Kong, and accordingly in Schedule 6

to the British Nationality Act 1981(a) (British dependent

territories) the words "Hong Kong" shall be omitted as from

that date.
