Thank you for your letter of 6 March, in reply to mine.

of 25 February.

I have looked at the guidance notes for use in the case

of those applying for multiple entry certificates and

can assure you that they are set out in a positive way.

On your point on the carrying over of the entry certificat

after 1997 I can assure you that this is a matter we

will bear in mind in the coming years. I do not however

feel that this is something we need to discuss with

the Chinese in the Joint Liaison Group.

Any decisions

are very much a matter for us.
