(i) HONG KONG PARTICIPATION IN THE DRAFTING OF THE BAS IC LAW
Some hon Members have stressed the
importance of the participation of Hong Kong people in the drafting of
drafting of the Basic
Law.
This is essentially a matter for the Chinese Government.
leaders,
I can however tell the House that Chinese
including Premier Zhao Ziyang, told the Prime Minister during her visit to Peking that in the drafting of the Basic Law the views of
the people of Hong Kong will be solicited on a wide basis and
that the Basic Law will be promulgated not later than 1990.
