Recreation

7.1 Introduction

A great many aspects of San Tin Rural New Town are oriented towards leisure time activities. User groups for most of these include a population well outside of San Tin boundaries, with most areas available for use by the general public.

All recreation opportunities are intrinsic parts of the Town open space system, or have a direct connection to the system. The extensive water/lake series plays an important role in planning recreation activities, most importantly at the Town Park. Extensive footpath and cycle ways connect recreation areas along this lineal system.

The following chart summarizes the recreation opportunities afforded by San Tin and indi- cates the user groups to be served.

7.2 Community/Recreation

Centres

Recreation provision for San Tin Residents is somewhat decentralized along the open space system. The two main communities in the town, East San Tin Valley, and Chau Tau Valley-each contain a centralized Community Centre, featuring extensive indoor and out- door recreation facilities. The Western agri- cultural valley contains an outdoor oriented facility in the rehousing district.
