Supplementary to Question No. 6 in the
Legislative Council on 26 June 1985
Mrs. FAN:- Sir, the amount of tax written off in 84/85 is in fact double that
of the three preceding years. Could the Financial Secretary throw light on the
reason for this exceptionally high amount and whether the Government is considering
any measures to improve the situation in future?
The Financial Secretary:- Sir, as it has been an exceptionally high amount, I
کہاں
think this has to be looked in perspective. The total of amount of tax collected
was $15 billion, so the $27.46 million represented only 0.16 per cent in 1984/85.
As to the steps that have been taken, we do follow the usual civil remedies. In
view of the fact that initial defaults amount to about 6 to 7 per cent annually,
I think the Commissioner has done very well in the collections which he has made.
