Art and Craft is caught in primary schools and

toe syllabus covers picture-making througn drawing,

painting and collage; printmaking; basic design;

three-dimensional work and arc appreciation turougn an

introduction to bocn Cuinese and Western art.

Art and Design is taught in about two-thirds of

junior seconuary and one-third of senior secondary

Classes. The syllabus includes drawing, painting,

sculpture, graphic design, crafts, coree-dimensional

uesign, calligraphy and Lettering, and

appreciation. Most schools follow the recommendea

allocation of three perious per week for this subject.

Since 1981, ali puolic sector primary schools

nave been provided with a special room for arts and

crarts. in secondary schools, well-equipped art rooms

are a feature of the current design.

with the introduction of these new syllabuses

10. 19/9 and improved resources and facilities in

schools, tnere nas deen a ten-fold increase in the

number of pupils taking arc in the Certificate of Education Examination in the past five years. Art is also offered as a subject in the digner Level

Examination and there are plans to offer it at Advanced

Level in the near future.
