The purpose of these meetings was to explain to organisations the main features of the proposed legislation and the procedures which will be followed in conducting the elections to the Legislative Council later this year, and to seek their comments on what we had in
mind.

When
the Legislative Council (Electoral Provisions) Bill is brought before this Council in a
a few
weeks' time, I shall seek to reassure Members that
that the
views expressed during these meetings, and subsequently in correspondence and through the media, have been taken into
account to the extent that it has been proper and
practicable to do so.
